ABOUT ME
How I Got Started In Web Development
I acquired an interest in web development in 2003 when I was tasked to help put together an intranet site for our department. I knew nothing about web page creation at the time and began the process of trying things out and learning by trial and error until I finally decided to pick up a few books on the subject. I quickly discovered that it wasn't as hard as it looked and was really enjoyable. My experience with this site helped me gain business as a freelance web developer aside from my regular job and and gave me the opportunity to build a few e-commerce websites. Since then I've been building my skillset by learning new languages, improving upon what I already know, and continually finding new ways to apply what I know for my current employer, the Air National Guard, paying clients, and for friends and family. I never get tired of it.
Formal Education
I graduated from Ricks College (now Brigham Young University- Idaho) in 1999 with an Associates degree in General Education with an Emphasis in Business. I also have an Associates degree in Information Technology Management from The Community College of The Air Force.
Work Experience
My current position affords me a lot of freedom with regard to web development, there are plently of resources and the need for better applications never seems to go away. I've also been able to develop and implement a few applications for my unit in the Air National Guard where the web environment is heavily locked down and there aren't as many developers so I think the work I do for them is readily recognized and appreciated. Aside from these two major entities I do some freelance and pro bono work for clients, friends, and family on the side. This occupies most of my time to develop but when/if it slows down I like to take time to build my proficiency in other languages or throw together some CSS-based templates.
